Captain Dusty

Captain Dusty (Mr. Aloha) is from the big island andcomes from a family of fisherman. He grew up on the slope of Hualalai in a little coffee farm town called Holualoa. He first discovered his love for the ocean at the age of 5 when his dad pushed him into his first wave at Kohanaiki (better known as Pine Trees). kona_swim_with_dolphins_hawaii_oceanicAfter that first wave he knew he would be spending a big part of his life in the ocean and the waves!

Growing up, life was very simple; his family took care of a coffee farm in Holualoa where there was no county water or electrical lines. They got their power from solar energy and generators and the water was contained in a catchment tank whenever in rained. Growing up his parents and grandparents taught him that the ocean has everything a man needs: surfing, fishing, diving, therapy, etc. They taught him how to be self-sustaining, using all the ocean has to offer. They always told him: “If you take care of the ocean, the ocean will take care of you!”

Dusty graduated from Kealakehe high school in 2004 and went to Kapiolani CC on the island of Oahu. There he met his beautiful wife Jennifer and they moved to South Lake Tahoe where he continued to pursue his education at South Lake Tahoe Community College. Dusty got into a fire academy/EMT training program and graduated swim_with_manta_rays_hawaii_oceanic_kona_hawaiiin a little over a year with hopes of become a part of the brotherhood of firefighters in Tahoe. But his love for the ocean was to strong… So they moved back to their home the Big Island where he became a lifeguard on the east side for the Hawaii County Fire department. He kept the waters safe and educated the patrons of the area and the ocean. Dusty is a Red Cross Certified Ocean Lifeguard and thoroughly enjoys helping people experience the ocean that he loves in a fun and safe way.

He now works for Kohanaiki Club at the beach as a part of an elite group of watermen and women called the A-team and spends his day off on Pueo Kai working alongside his long-time friend Capt. Jason. Dusty has a very deep and intimate relationship with the ocean that will never fail. He spends almost every single day in the ocean; it's his first love. He says he learns something new every single day on the water and is still hungry to learn more. He feels so blessed to be able to do what he does because he gets paid to do at work the same things he does on his days off!! Aloha!
